Many years ago, a beloved elder gave me a recipe for a turkey roulade that involved forcibly squishing herbs and garlic in amongst the layers of flesh. I balked and she replied, “Nothing is gross when you’re a mom!”

I want a medieval/early modern drama that has as much fun with the process of getting clean as Albrect Dürer's bathhouse etchings. The sight gag with the faucet in The Men's Bath always endears me to it but the ladies matter-of-factly scrubbing themselves over in the other woodcut are good too

Reminds me of the film (and book) “The Sisters Brothers” where one of the brothers (played by John C Reilly) is introduced to a toothbrush and then starts using it regularly https://youtube.com/watch?v=1E8GpSjrWL0&si=gdfV2Vc2J0pet6-_

hopefully the context of the piece fills in the blanks!! too many period pieces delight in representing “the past” as the filthiest possible den of muck
