His letters truly are a treasure trove. The earliest ones are very sad as he is writing to friends who do not write to him. Later ones, where he is giving advise on the ascetic life, are much more cheerful.

the one thing you can say about Saint Jerome, consistently, across depictions, is that his face is always set at an extremely normal angle, and his head also held at a normal angle, just a face and head angled like any person's would
