Did we miss a chapter, or at least a paragraph, somewhere? I thought at the end of part four, Our Hero was still clinging to a rock, rather bedraggled and hopeless, but still more or less alive. I suppose he must have slipped off the rock at some point, but that doesn't seem to have been narrated...
I suppose losing chunks of the story would be in keeping with the traditions of cuneiform tablets.
