But three weeks ago I did decide to transition and I'm realizing now that the way I've decided to (inject myself with estrogen and inform everyone except my boyfriend after the fact) was definitely influenced by your writing. I didn't understand until this piece that you were so compelling to me as a blueprint for a lesbianism I couldn't yet admit I wanted because your methods of self-evasion were so much more active and exciting. I tended towards "there but not present" in a way that reminds me of your friend, and a lot of artists and writers I admired in that era turned out to be transmasculine.
