Your chatner convinced me to watch Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which I very much enjoyed, so Anchors Aweigh and On The Town are now next on my list (but also, I love ballet, so that is a bonus for me)!
if I might air my grievance with these ballet non sequitur it's that I feel confused, then upset that I'm confused, as the tone/mood of these sequences never makes any sense, imho!
I've meant to look into whether these Gene Kelly movies are the source material for the "No Dames" number in HAIL CAESAR!, or if there a bunch of sailor musicals that I'm unaware of.
So nice to know I'm not the only one who finds the ballet sequences unbearable. I thought I was just uncouth.
they are clearly very good ballet sequences! they just turn my brain OFF
Yes, and Gene Kelly is a wonderful dancer and I just can't bear them.
"GOTTA DAAAAANCE"

Agree - this is part-blog, part-movie recommendations now for me.
