When my husband got his mfa at Columbia, his prof was friends with Elaine May and informed her that all the students were obsessed with her work.

Wanna come talk to them? he asked.

No, said Elaine May.

not five minutes into M&N Peter Fall starts gentling Cassavettes like a horse and rubbing pills down his throat. It’s perfect

I loved this so much, thank you for writing it. Really needed the laughter this provided. I watched the clip you provided, now I MUST see the whole film. Strange as this may sound, this could be the story of (and solution for) a relative of mine, who has one year left to live on an inheritance (that once was approx 90K) and even though he has not been living as well as this gentleman, he has been just as unemployed, and somehow does not get that without the kindness of family he'd be on the street. On occasion, I have wondered why he has not married. It has been discussed as a possible solution among the family, since he seems to have no belief in working) My relative needs a better head of hair and a suit, perhaps, to make this happen.

I remember seeing that movie in the 90s there was a channel that played 70s films. I might watch it again now. I did think Henry Higgins relationship with Eliza was not unequal never thought he might be gay before.

Your writing is excellent as usual. Discovered you from the Hittite Army stories. There can never be enough stories about Hatti or the Bronze Age Levant

This sounds like a great companion piece to that other midcentury What If Jeeves And Wooster Tried To Bump Off Madeleine Bassett, But With American Accents, viz How To Murder Your Wife

I watched this movie, because you insisted so convincingly, and it was in fact a delight.

Wondering: do American little people learn about Jemima Puddleduck?

Henry Higgins tries to deracinate Eliza, a different evil from trying to murder her. An apt comparison might be Jemima Pùddleduck with the twist that the fox himself rescues her from his own evil intensions rather than a perceptive dog.
