It’s very important to me that the dogs love me significantly more than anyone else in the house. I make no secret of this, and to that end I make sure that no one else feeds them but me. As a direct result of this bribery, every night the big dog, who weighs ten pounds, sleeps on my ankles, and the little dog, who weighs five pounds, sleeps on my shins, and I sleep the sound sleep of the just.

when our cat Dave realizes a sandwich is being made he demands the customary Cheese Tax, enforced with determined sitting, gentle chirps and if necessary paw-taps to the leg.
our late lamented dog Taters lived in a primarily vegetarian household and when we brought her to a friend’s barbecue and she tasted burgers her eyes did the Requiem for a Dream thing.
This had me giggling out loud, which caused people around me in the coffee shop to stare... that's about the highest praise I can offer, as I'm shy and hate attention in public! :)
