Hi - long time reader first time commenter here. I felt it'd be worthwhile putting this here when you spoke about "Feeling even minutely useful to others, a ‘worker among workers,’ is something I have sorely missed."

I and a few of my friends from the local queer community are running a covid-19 lockdown relief fund to help gender minorities, sex workers, sanitation workers, and HIV positive women affected by the nationwide lockdown that has been imposed ever since March 26, and has now been extended up until May 17. In this lockdown, transgender people and sex workers have had their livelihood snatched from them and we're supplying groceries, essential medicines, and direct bank transfers to affected folks. We're not affiliated to any big organisation - we're just a few friends who are coordinating this benefit for our queer siblings. Please donate what you can to https://paypal.me/ArvindBadrinath and upon donation we'll add you to an emailing list that details how exactly the funds are being used - every penny is documented.

Want to recommend another Brooklyn-based mutual aid network! I'm part of Bed-Stuy Strong (https://bedstuystrong.com/) and it's been a wonderful experience thus far! There's been a lot of linking with other neighborhood mutual aid networks as well and it's been a privilege to be part of even in a small way.

If you want to expand your soul's switchboard operator fantasy life to include WWI, try out the role of a Hello Girl: https://www.pbs.org/video/all-about-women-girls-film-festival-winner-hello-girls-piwvlk/

This is just to say that I had every impossible hope of becoming a 1920s switchboard operator when I was a child in the 1980s despite the time travel snag that I was bravely going to ignore, and that recently (time is cancelled but it was in April) I made a recipe that was very good but which required chopping pistachios for approximately ever. So, I approve heartily of all of this. Thank you for the update. (Also for the mutual aid, but of course even non switchboard weirdos will appreciate that part...)
