Those midcentury "men's novels" about someone who has tenure but is depressed by his wife's body, the Gnostic Gospels, Pamela: Or Virtue Rewarded, Gibbon.
oh I love Pamela! I wrote about Pamela ages ago for the Toast but it might be reworth a visit. I can't think of any tenured men's novels along those lines except for Stoner, though, I'm afraid
My ex had a Don Delillo in his stack and I used to pick it up and bellow HE HAD TENURE, BUT HIS WIFE'S BREASTS DEPRESSED HIM. I don't know if this is what the book is about, but it is genuinely what I believe it to be about. (He then tried to make me read Blood Meridian, and then we broke up.)
"reworth a visit" makes perfect sense to me. It has continued to earn visit.
I'd love to just turn you loose on any number of books I want to have read but prefer not to read
tell me and i'll see what i can do!
